In honor of Memorial Day, I go live with Mark Hutson, author of SO COSTLY A SACRIFICE, the true story true of one family’s enormous sacrifice during WWII. If you’ve ever been inspired by someone else’s story and felt called to write it, only to think “but I’m not a writer!” you’ll want to hear how Mark—an engineer—became an award-winning author.
Storytime With Writers: Mark Hutson, Author of SO COSTLY A SACRIFICE
want to thank you for the effort you put into writing, “So Costly a Sacrifice.” It helped me better understand the true meaning of patriotism.
Although I was born in Utah and have spent most of my life here, I never heard about the Borgstrom family and their sacrifice until I read a brief review of your book. I became very interested in reading the book and soon ordered it. It more than lived up to my expectations.
On a personal note, I particularly appreciate the way in which you depicted rural Mormon culture. My Grandfather Green was born into a Mormon family in 1888 in Woodruff, Idaho, some fifty miles up the Wasatch Front from Thatcher. My mother was born in 1913 in her Grandfather Green’s log cabin and grew up on her father’s farm. The family life that she experienced was very similar to that that you described for the Borgstrom family.
Thanks again for this wonderful book.
